It’s not quite here yet, but Week 1 of the 2010 NFL season is coming quickly for the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore will open their season Monday night as part of a Monday Night Football doubleheader at the New York Jets, a team that has labeled themselves as “Super Bowl or bust.”
The Jets have gotten national attention for having the No. 1 overall defense last season, their bold predictions this season and for appearing on “Hard Knocks” during training camp. The Ravens have taken notice and seem to be prepared for almost anything the Jets have to throw at them.
The Ravens are dealing with injuries, but Lardarius Webb and Oniel Cousins, according to John Harbaugh, could play. Jared Gaither, Donte’ Stallworth and Terrence Cody are out for the game.
Baltimore’s three receivers, Anquan Boldin, Derrick Mason and T.J. Houshmandzadeh will be ready for action and Darrelle Revis can only cover one receiver at a time. The passing game also presents issues with Todd Heap over the middle and Ray Rice’s ability to get open against linebackers.
On defense, expect the Ravens to stack the line of scrimmage to shut down Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson to force second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez to throw the ball against a banged up secondary. Although Baltimore’s secondary doesn’t have Ed Reed, Tom Zbikowski is more disciplined and doesn’t take as many chances as Reed. In addition, new receiver Santonio Holmes is suspended and in the past he has been an absolute Ravens killer.
Overall, this should be a game that is tough for both teams, however, Sanchez will be the quarterback to make the mistakes and the Ravens will pull this one off 20-10.
