For the second time in two days, the Baltimore Ravens signed a free agent as an insurance policy. On Thursday, the team agreed to terms with 35-year-old cornerback Walt Harris. Harris had previously been with the Bears, Colts, Redskins and 49ers.
He’s a 13-year veteran who missed all of last season with a knee injury.
The signing of Harris, and the previously signed Travis Fisher, gives the Ravens some depth at cornerback in the event that Lardarius Webb and Fabian Washington aren’t ready to go in time for the season opener on Sept. 13.
Webb and Washington each suffered torn ACLs toward the end of the 2009 season.
The Harris signing makes the Ravens count three for the week, including safety Ken Hamlin and quarterback Marc Bulger. They could surprise again before the start of training camp on July 27th, but probably are done signing players until injuries or cuts take place.
