The Baltimore Ravens threw the ball 10 times en route to their stomping of the New England Patriots. Of course, after the game, the question was about Joe Flacco’s health.
Flacco has been battling injuries all season long. In the 2009 season, Flacco’s had a banged up hip and shoulder and has seemingly regressed. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say his injuries have caused his regression. However, if the Ravens are to beat the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, Flacco may need to throw more than 10 times.
I will attribute some of Flacco’s injuries to the shuffling among the offensive line. Jared Gaither has been in and out of the line up forcing Michael Oher to slide over and either Marshal Yanda or Oniel Cousins to play right tackle.
Another part of Flacco’s injuries is his misreading of blitzes and holding the ball too long. Flacco has taken multiple sacks from patting the ball and not going through his progressions properly. It was nice to see him not take too many hits on Sunday.
I think Baltimore’s lack of passes on Sunday can be more attributed to nursing a lead rather than an injury, but it was clear the Ravens coaching staff was protecting Flacco. I don’t think Flacco’s injuries will have an impact on Saturday night’s game, but it’s an interesting story to follow nonetheless.
