On an otherwise slow football day in Owings Mills, the Baltimore Ravens were busy making roster moves. The obvious one was placing Fabian Washington on the injured reserve ending his season. Washington tore his ACL late in the Indianapolis game Sunday while pushing Joseph Addai out of bounds.
Running back Matt Lawrence was also placed on injured reserve Tuesday. I thought it was a bit shocking, but he didn’t contribute a whole lot except on special teams. This is not a huge loss.
To fill their roster, Baltimore signed cornerback Cary Williams off of the Tennessee Titans practice squad. Williams, 24, was a seventh-round pick for Tennessee and has some NFL game experience. I’m pretty sure Williams will be mostly special teams and probably won’t play this week.
The other signing is fullbackĀ Charles Ali. Ali was playing in the UFL. He played most recently for the Cleveland Browns in 2008. I don’t think he will play this week, but this signing signals something else to me. The missing part of this offense, to me, has been the absence of Lorenzo Neal. I think Neal. and now maybe Ali, would have been useful on the goal line in Sunday’s game against the Colts. With this signing the Ravens may use Ali in front of Le’Ron McClain for some running plays.
